Avril Lavigne, six-time Grammy Award nominee and author of indelible hits such as “Sk8er Boi,” “Girlfriend,” “I’m With You,” and “Complicated,” traveled across North America in the summer of 2024 on her “Greatest Hits” tour. The nostalgia-fueled trip, averaging nearly 15,000 spectators and $1,000,000 in revenue per tour date, took frenzied fans across her two decades of groundbreaking music, all supported by a reliable and robust Cohesion PA.
Canadian musical icon Avril Lavigne is notable for her passionate lyrics that spark arena-wide singalongs from her dedicated fan base that spans back twenty-plus years, so vocal intelligibility and full, seamless coverage were paramount for the PA. Crystal-clear audio needed to be reproduced to faithful fans at 46 venues across the United States and Canada, and the selected system also should benefit the production team by being easy to fly, strike, and truck across the continent.
Clair Global deployed a PA highlighted by Cohesion CO12 and CO10 arrays for full-venue coverage, backed by flown and ground stacked Cohesion CP218 II+ subwoofers for thunderous low end. Six Cohesion CO8 across the stage provided rich sound and full coverage for the diehard fans in the front, and a pair of Cohesion CP6+ were used by engineers for near-field monitoring.
Lavigne’s trademark vocals were carried faithfully to the tens of thousands who attended each night of the tour, eager to shout, scream, and sing along with the pop-punk princess. The PA had ample headroom and the clarity necessary for a tour of this caliber, and the production team was able to pack the entire quick-rigging system into a single truck for the duration of the four-month trip.
“It has to sound intimate to 20,000 listeners in the room, and it has to sound good even at the back of the arena. Cohesion is clear, flexible, and powerful. You can cover a lot with less. It’s pretty impressive.”
