Equipment List

44–76 CO10, 12–16 on main hangs (line length was venue dependent); 10 per side hang (venue dependent)

12 CP218 II+, 6 verticals per side in cardioid configuration

6–8 CF28 as front fill

Challenge

Coheed and Cambria wanted their trademark prog-rock sound to be heard loud and clear, even at distances exceeding 300’ from the stage. The band is powerful, and that power needed to translate not only in the low end but also the mid-range frequencies throughout their performances.

Solution

The PA featured CO10 on the main and side hangs; line lengths were dependent on the venue, with the system using up to sixteen on the mains and ten [DS1.1]on the sides. The subwoofers, originally designed to be flown, were moved to the ground for consistency night to night. Ultimately, six CP218 II+ were placed on either side of the stage in cardioid configuration. Finally, between six to eight CF28 fill speakers (depending on the width of the stage) were placed at eight-foot intervals to over the front seating/standing areas.

Result

The CO10 provided ample power and headroom, extensive deployment versatility, and the coverage the audio team needed. As System Engineer Steve Hupkowicz described, “We’ve gotten great throw on this main array; at 300 feet, it’s nice and clear.” The low end extension from the CO10 paired well with the musical, rich output from the CP218 II+, and the CF28 continued that exceptional tonality with seamless coverage to the passionate fans who packed the rails each night on Coheed and Cambria’s memorable summer tour.

“Coheed is a powerful band that melts faces off. They’re all super-talented guys, and I wanted that to be heard. When they decided to go bigger and carry their PA, Cohesion fit right in. I’ve been happy with all the shows. It’s not just me—we get 20, 30 people a night saying how awesome it sounds. I always want the best representation for how this band should sound.”
